PLN Sukses Reduksi 32 Metrik Ton Emisi Karbon Gas Rumah Kaca

MESIR | PT PLN (Persero) berhasil mengurangi 32 juta metrik ton emisi karbon gas rumah kaca sepanjang tahun 2022. Capaian tersebut disampaikan oleh Direktur Utama PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo dalam agenda Decarbonizing Energy Sector for Net Zero Indonesia Pavillion di COP 27 yang digelar di Mesir pada Senin (7/11).

“Saya di sini dengan bangga mengatakan bahwa tahun ini kami sukses mereduksi 32 juta metric ton emisi C02. Melampaui target NDC kita,” terang Darmawan, Selasa (8/11/2022).

Ia menjelaskan, dalam mencapai hal tersebut, PLN melakukan pendekatan holistik, yakni menambah kapasitas pembangkit energi terbarukan (EBT), mengolah hasil gas buang menjadi energi listrik, menggunakan teknologi pembangkit batu bara yang lebih efisien, dan menerapkan co-firing biomassa.

“Kita lakukan yang terbaik dan bergerak sejauh yang kita bisa. Tahun lalu, 13 gigawatt pembangkit batu bara yang masih dalam perencanaan, kami hapus sehingga menghindarkan kita dari 1,8 miliar metric ton emisi CO2 selama 25 tahun ke depan,” ungkapnya.

Darmawan mengakui bahwa berbagai usaha tersebut masih belum cukup, sehingga PLN perlu menambahkan ruang yang lebih besar untuk menambah porsi pembangkit EBT. Mengingat saat ini PLN terus meningkatkan pemanfaatan pembangkit EBT yang berbasis tenaga surya, panas bumi, hidro, hingga ombak.

“Kami secara agresif meningkatkan pemanfaatan EBT. Sehingga setiap potensi EBT yang ada akan kami maksimalkan. Bersamaan dengan itu, kami perlu meningkatkan kapasitas teknologi guna mengakomodasi fluktuasi supply-demand untuk sistem baru tersebut,” tambahnya.

Oleh karena itu, untuk mencapai target NZE di 2060, PLN melakukan pendekatan holistik melalui 8 inisiatif yang saat ini dijalankan PLN. Inisiatif tersebut terdiri dari pensiun dini pembangkit fosil, pilot proyek co-firing hidrogen dan amonia, menambah pembangkit energi terbarukan (EBT), layanan energi hijau, co-firing biomassa, inisiasi carbon capture storage, peluncuran smart grid control system, dan membangun ekosistem kendaraan listrik.

Selain itu, Darmawan juga menegaskan bahwa pemanasan global adalah tantangan bersama. Oleh sebab itu membutuhkan strategi dan kolaborasi bersama dari seluruh dunia baik dari teknologi, inovasi, hingga investasi.

“Paradigma kita mesti berubah. Satu-satunya jalan keluar adalah dengan kolaborasi,” jelasnya. (*)
